There is a window in the morning before the day has any hold on you. You are awake, but nothing has started. It is one of the few moments that arrives before anything is asked of you, and this is the quietest you will be until night.

Most mornings, you spend it without noticing it was yours to spend.

What you do here is small. It does not change the day ahead, but it changes the way you meet it. Reach for the phone and the room fills with other people before you have sat up in it. Move fast, brush fast, eat standing, and you have told the day you are already behind, though nothing has happened yet to put you there.

Or give the minutes back to yourself. Spend them slowly, with breath, with intention, the way you would if the day were yours to shape rather than the other way round.

The tea you drink standing is not the same tea you drink sitting down.

None of it changes what the day holds. The same work waits either way. The morning takes on the pace you bring to it. Meet it fast and the rush has a way of following you, straight through to the evening. Meet it slowly, and the day feels less like something happening to you.

You do not need a whole system to follow, only the first few minutes taken on purpose. Once you have done that, you know it can be done again.

In the end, there is only one question, asked before your feet touch the floor:

Whose morning is this going to be?

That is yours to decide. Tomorrow, you get to choose again.
